Capital of the Maysan province, Amarah is located north of Basra on the Tigris River.

The population of Manbij is mainly made up of Arabs and has Kurdish, Turkmen, Circassian, and Chechen minority groups.

The Marshes are found in the southern part of Iraq on the floodplains of the Euphrates and Tigris.
