Al Thawrah is strategically important as it is close to the Tabqa dam and military airbase. The dam is the largest hydroelectric dam providing electricity to Syria. In 2017 it was taken back from ISIL who had controlled it since 2014. An estimated 40% of buildings were damaged or destroyed in this operation, yet people flooded home when it was freed from ISIL. Before the civil war this city had a Sunni muslim majority but also had, Kurdish, Armenian, Assyrian, Ismaili, and
Shiite populations; however, most of the minority
populations did not return.
"In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake." 2 Corinthians 4:4-5
Father, we ask that You would open the eyes of the blind and they would see the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though church buildings have been destroyed and people have been scattered may You call many there to Yourself and may we see churches meeting together in homes and being willing to share with those around them.
