Located in the Nineveh Plains about 30 miles north of Mosul, AlQosh is a traditional Christian village with the people being Chaldean Catholics. It is home to the Rabban Hormizd Monastery founded in 640 AD. The economy is based on agriculture and traditional trades which include weaving and dying cloth. It is also home to the tomb of the prophet Nahum who came from AlQosh according to Nahum 1:1.
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him, we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2
Father, the people of AlQosh call themselves Christians, but they do not have a personal relationship with You. They believe in salvation through works; show them that it is by grace alone, through faith alone that they can come to know You. Lord, show them that they cannot be in Your family because they were born "Christian," but they must be born again to be a child of God.
