Baghdad is the capital of Iraq and the second largest city in all of the Arab world (Cairo is the first). It is located on the Tigris River in the heart of ancient Mesopotamia. It has a mix of Sunni and Shia Islam, which leads to many conflicts within the city. It sustained much damage during the Persian Gulf War (1990-91) and the Iraqi War (2003-2011). In peaceful times, Baghdad was a prosperous and sophisticated city with a rich cultural life.
“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:17-18
Lord, we ask that You would draw near to those in Baghdad, and that You would call many to Yourself from that massive city. Many who live in Baghdad are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit, and they are trying to work their way to You. Show them that You have already provided a way through Your perfect Son, and when they come to You, You will hear their cry and deliver them out of their sin.
