Karbala is most known for the Battle of Karbala and the shrines of Husayn and Abbas. It is one of the holiest cities for Shia Muslims (the other is Najaf). Last year alone, six million Shia Muslims visited Karbala on the Day of Ashura, the day of mourning the martyrdom of Hussain in 680 AD at Karbala. This mourning season can also include flagellating themselves.

Lord, in a city of great darkness, would many come to know you as Light, and turn away from the darkness around them? Give those who are following You the strength to walk in boldness because they have You, the Light of Life with them.
