Local tradition holds that a tomb in the old quarter of Kirkuk is that of the prophet Daniel. It has served as a synagogue and church and is now used as a mosque. The people of Kirkuk are comprised of Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, and Christians. Half of all oil exports from Iraq come from Kirkuk. It is a very important city and many battles between Kurds and Arabs have been fought over this land.
“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world.” Ephesians 2:1-2
Father, show the people of Kirkuk that the course of this world leads to eternal death. Open their eyes to Your mercy and grace, and call them to repentance. Would You raise up a leader, like Daniel, to proclaim Your truth in the heart of Kirkuk?
